Rowan was
the guitarist and singer for The Dabs.
The 1959 Rickenbacker he played,
and the Marshall combo, were purchased on a trip to New York from a
music store on E. 48th St. The guitar formerly belonged to Richard
Lloyd of the band Television.
Occasionally, a Gibson SG was used as a backup
guitar but
the sound was too harsh and for that reason was never used much.
At the time Rowan had a job with Air New Zealand which allowed him to
travel very cheaply to places like London, L.A. and New York and
whilst there he made sure to check out clubs like The Marquee, The Whiskey A GoGo and CBGBs.
Rowan is now living in Sydney making a living from writing software for
the travel industry and keeps his hand in by playing in a country rock
band.
Other bands: The
Killjoys (1981), The
Ainsworths (1981), The
Yesmen (1984), The
Henchmen
(1984 played bass on unreleased album and Motorhead support), The Midnite Movers (1985), Soundshock And The
Theory (1986), Rick
Bryant & The Jive Bombers (1988).
